Neurochoreography: On Socioemotional Oscillations will aim to probe the phenomenological effects of performance on social processing. Dr.Hakan’s Evaluation of Social Attributes, which proposes a correlation between the perception of facial symmetry and trustworthiness with increasing subject age, served as my inspiration. The notion that the aging brain has neural programming to see greater universal trust, is ripe for composition. The work will be supported by the conviction that age is not binary- but rather a process that can be captured in a choreographic snapshot of cognitive development.

Ultimately, I see real-time social choreographic reading as the ideal method to translate this idea. The score will not be imposed upon dancers - instead, movement will be born from each dancer’s improvised interpretation of Dr.Hakan’s social categories in a dancer-specific order. This movement will be analyzed in a double-blind format, and depending on response alignment, the piece will curate itself.
